Diving
is a wonderful sport. It is a sport many people support
for a life time. In many ways diving is a small close knit
community. At almost any meet you will find coaches, judges
or meet officials who are a who's who in the sport. We have
been at small invitational meets where many of the divers
and parents are unaware that one or more of coaches are
past Olympians. They may not know some of the meet officials
also manage some of the world's largest meets. They may
not realize a judge at this small invite has also judged
at Nationals, Olympic Trials, NCAA Championships or major
international meets. Past diving greats may show up at any
meet. We remember a meet in Mission Viejo where the parents
of a JO diver had no idea they were sitting in the stands
next to Greg Louganis
The
sport of Diving has a rich history and many of the people
who have contributed to that history are still in the sport.
DiveMeets is fortunate to work with many of the world's
top diving experts, people who represent many deferent diving
organizations and nationalities. Over the years these people
have written numerous diving articles. Unfortunately many
of these articles are lost; scattered across the Internet
and discarded magazines. In 2009 we decided create a single
place where future articles can be published and archived.
The project is called "Experts & Legends"
This
exciting project is very much a work in progress. The goal
is to catalog memories, opinions, comments, articles, photos
and videos many of the best and most knowledgeable people
in the sport of Diving.
As
we develop this archive we will no doubt organize and then
reorganize the format. The goal is to build a wonderful
reference source for future generations of divers.
How
can you take part? Right now we are collecting Pre-1990
photos, videos and written memories from divers, coaches,
judges and parents. Please e-mail pjackman@meetcontrol.com
for additional information.
