I think there are various reasons a parent should consider placing their child in the sport of diving. First of all diving is fun! It is a sport where the hard work involved is actually just a lot of fun playing with gravity, bouncing, flipping and twisting.

Compared to a lot of other sports where you can burn out and the sports become boring, diving is always a thrill. Almost every dive you do feels just a little bit different. It is fun! That is the main reason I would involve a child in diving.

Another big reason to consider is that it is SAFE. As far as I know, in our competitive sport of diving in the USA, we have never had a death or paralysis. It is difficult to name a sport that can say that. While the parents' children are having fun in a safe sport, they will learn how to challenge themselves, overcome fear of something new, and learn how to compete and how to handle failures and success. A great byproduct of the sport is that it keeps you in great physical condition.

Compared to a lot of other sports, diving is actually very inexpensive. Your equipment involves a swimsuit and a chamois. The lessons and coaching expenses are very reasonable compared to most sports. The only expectations I would think parents should have is that their children are having fun at a safe sport that helps their kids stay in shape, and learn how to set goals and go for their dreams.
