He was named USA Diving’s Coach of the Year in both 2006 and 2007 and was selected by USA Diving’s Committee for Competitive Excellence to attend the first FINA World Diving Conference in Athens, Greece that same year in 2006. He has written several educational articles for USA Diving’s quarterly magazine. He also presents educational seminars at USA Diving’s annual convention.

John is also actively involved in the community. A safety-certified coach member of USA Diving, he is a first aid and CPR instructor for the American Safety and Health Institute. He consulted with architectural design and construction teams for the development of a natatorium at Fishers High School, a new school in the Indianapolis area. John has bachelor’s degrees in management information systems and health & physical education and a master’s degree in sport science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He spent 10 years coaching and teaching at Ball State University before moving to Indianapolis in 1998 to begin working with USA Diving, primarily as the coach of the Regional Training Center until 2005, when Indianapolis became the home of the National Training Center and he became director and associate head coach.
