In one of the most emotional and memorable events of the 2000 Sydney Games, Laura Wilkinson moved from eighth place to first in the final round to win 10 meter gold. Laura's victory was even more improbable considering she was could not even climb up to the top of the tower without a shoe to protect her broken right foot, an injury that almost kept her out of the Olympic Trials. This gold was the first for an American woman since 1976 when Jennifer Chandler won it. (NBC Olympic Diving Commentator) Cynthia Potter of the USA took bronze in the same 1976 event. |
